We started this company because our clients were fed up.
In 2004, we founded Payroll Freedom in Mundelein, IL because the small business owners we worked with kept telling us the same thing: the big payroll companies were making mistakes, providing terrible service, and assigning a new processor every few months. We built a better option.
Born out of frustration with the big guys.
We didn’t start Payroll Freedom to take on ADP and Paychex. We started it because the small business owners we served kept coming to us with the same problems — payroll errors that took weeks to fix, customer service lines that put them on hold, and a new processor assigned to their account every few months who didn’t know anything about their business.
They weren’t asking for a cheaper option. They were asking for someone who would actually pick up the phone and know their name.
So in 2004, we opened our doors in Mundelein, Illinois — and built our entire model around the thing the national providers couldn’t offer: personal, local service from a team that treats every client like a long-term partner, not an account number.
